Helex is not a pleasant place to live. So destroyed was its ecosystem by the Reckoning, that Helex is inundated with perpetual acid rain. After a few years of this, the residents decided “to hell with this” and started coating their exteriors with acid-resistant elements. Oh, I forgot to mention that Helex is populated almost entirely by roving, rival gangs of hoodlums. Loose alliances and never-ending feuds over land and dwindling resources are the rule.
Helex is less of a city and more of state, in all meanings of that word "state." It was hit hardest during the cataclysm, and has made even fewer steps toward recovery than any other city-state.
There is no formal government. The only hierarchy is that of rival gangs, battling over resources and territory and sometimes just pride. Above all, Helexians are focused on surviving. And it requires all their focus to survive in this terrible state.
Every structure is a ruin, or a ruin of a ruin. Everything is wet or on fire. Puddles of acid rain abound, and the decades of metal-eating rain have worn away at what little edifices once remained.
If there was ever a city that defined hardship and pain, it was Helex. Once a rich energon fueling community, it saw great battles for control of its rich resources during the Great War. These battles culminated in the destruction of the refineries of Helex and ignited a fire so terrible and draining that it has yet to be ousted despite the efforts of the city's considerable fire forces and the promises of every one of Helex's "great" leaders. The considerable damage inflicted by the flames has only been magnified by the terrible damage caused by Unicron's assault, driving the final nail into the coffin of a once bustling and beautiful place.
Helex is a land without sun and stars now. The eternal blaze of the energon refinery covers everything in a thick layer of soot and grime. When it rains, it is a gray black dredge - the silicon ash of Cybertron's soil mixes with the clouds of acid to weep black tears onto the denizens of Helex. It is always raining. The planet always cries for this lost child.
Life in Helex is hard, law is meaningless, and factions are ignored. It's all about survival here and the strongest, toughest, and meanest get what they want. The metropolis is divided by gangs that are formed and broken on a daily basis with no rhyme or reason as they all fight over the scraps of a dying city.
But citizens of Helex are only truly divided in that they must choose how they will die. They may live near the eternal blaze gaining light and warmth, only to be slowly eroded away by its intense heat and drive mad by its thick plume of smoke. Or they may dwell further away and be increasingly affected by the endless rain which slowly eats away at the buildings and people, its constant pain driving them slowly insane over the passage of time.
Most unfortunate is that by and large no one has the money to leave Helex. If you're born in Helex, you die in Helex unless one of the "big gangs," the Autobots and Decepticons, adopts you as its own.
The Gangs:
Sons of Starscream: Basically wanna-be Decepticons. Only the most powerful members fly. Flying burns ALOT of fuel, not an easy commodity in Helex. Most just use jump jets.
Draken: Called Draken because the leader has a dragon-like alternate mode. All about being big, tough and brutal.
Chain of Helex: Drug runners and arms dealers. Big and varied.
The Torrent: Drug runners. Ground bound and hydro foil types.
You can make up gangs if you wish, gangs rise and fall all the time, few stand the test of time. The SoS, the Biker Boyz, Draken, and The Chain are a few of the old gangs that are not likely to fall any time soon.
Character Creation:
HELEX weapons shops focus primarily on Archaic weaponry and Melee Supremacy. Axes, swords, chains are cheaper and more readily available in this city-state.
All residents of HELEX get free acid-resistant or fire-resistant armor at creation.
Making Your Way:
(1) You can always be a lone wolf, and slink about the backstreets of Helex, but it is not recommended. Most that dwell here rove in packs. There is safety in numbers.
(2) You can join any gang or create your own.
(3) Need some quick cash or energon? The Strip is usually a good place to find odd jobs that need doing, someone that needs finding. The Strip is one of the rare locations where a group of "businesses" have gathered in one spot, forming a loose coalition of ventures, watching out for each other to some degree. Its pretty cutthroat still, but its better than most.
The Strip consists of chop shops, repair holds, fuel depots,
Unlike the other cities, there is no "board" where missions are posted, characters talk to the owner-operator of a place or the patrons therein to find out missions. We still list them the same way in the thread, but the premise is different in checking the list out and then applying for a mission.
A repair shop operator for instance might have noticed some unusual wounds on a batch of Chain members that they feebly explained away and your mission is to go check it out.
